A family dispute in Miami-Dade ended with one brother’s arrest after he allegedly attacked his sibling with a machete. Jerome Joseph Lissade, 30, was taken into custody on Wednesday, over a year after the incident at a home in Biscayne Gardens.
On May 12, 2024, the victim received a text from Lissade asking him to collect his belongings from a house they had previously shared. According to Local 10, when he arrived, Lissade allegedly confronted him with a machete. An argument followed, during which Lissade reportedly pushed his brother and pressed the weapon against his face and neck while demanding the return of his keys.
As the victim went outside to his car to retrieve a flower vase, Lissade followed. As per NBC Miami, when the victim tried to intervene, Lissade allegedly raised the machete, leading to a struggle. During the altercation, he is accused of swinging the weapon, causing injuries to his brother’s hands and leg.
After hearing the commotion, a cousin of the two men reviewed the home’s surveillance and intervened, carrying a firearm to stop the attack. “The witness exited the residence armed with a firearm and instructed the victim to come inside,” the sheriff’s office told NBC Miami. The injured man was first treated by their grandfather before being taken to a hospital for deep lacerations and nerve damage.
When Lissade was arrested by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, he acknowledged a dispute with the victim over keys but denied using physical force. He now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The reason for the delay in Lissade’s arrest is not clear, but he was eventually booked, with bond set at $7,500.
