This effort, confirmed by the Michigan Department of Attorney General, spans from the doorstep deals of Black Friday through to the cheer of New Year's Day, focusing on 24 critical subjects that range from AI scams to the antics of porch pirates.
Launching the campaign, AG Nessel aims to educate the public on the perils that lurk in the shadows of the festive cheer, particularly during peak shopping days such as Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday, where consumers are often caught up in the whirlwind of sales and charity, not watching for the grinch-like scammers waiting to make their move. A series of new alerts will be rolled out, AG Nessel's office announced, ensuring Michiganders have all they need to keep their holidays bright and scam-free.
In a novel twist, this year's campaign will adopt themes from beloved holiday films, injecting a dose of entertainment as it goes about arming citizens against grifters. "Before the holidays and the biggest spending day of the year, it's important to be aware of scammers looking to take the joy out of the season – and take your hard-earned money or personal information," Nessel stated, reflecting a commitment to merging levity with the gravity of consumer awareness.
