The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has clamped down on a trio of online casinos accused of flouting state law by providing unlicensed internet gaming options to Michigan's gamblers. As per an announcement on Wednesday, cease-and-desist directives were served to Cryptowins Casino, Slotland Casino, and Winaday Casino, with the MGCB instructing the platforms to immediately disable access for Michigan residents. The MGCB's stringent measures underscore the state's steadfast approach toward illegal online gambling activities.
In a statement that shows no leniency for illegal operations, Henry Williams, the Executive Director of the MGCB, said, per the Michigan Gaming Control Board, "Michigan law is clear—if you want to offer internet gaming in this state, you must be licensed." Operating without a license not only breaks the law but also jeopardizes player safety, since such sites are not subjected to regulatory oversight. The lack of consumer protections and the uncertainty surrounding the payment of winnings pose a direct threat to the trustworthiness of these platforms.
These cease-and-desist orders were issued as part of the MGCB’s enduring commitment to maintaining the integrity of Michigan's legalized gaming sector. As detailed by the MGCB, the errant casinos must now prevent players located in Michigan from placing bets and accessing their websites on a forthwith basis. Demonstrating a continuance of proactive oversight, the MGCB has remained vigilant in monitoring online gaming since the state authorized internet casinos and sports betting back in January 2021.
Williams added, per MGCB, "We have a strong regulatory system in place that ensures games are fair, operators are accountable, and players’ information and funds are secure." In his statement, offering an unvarnished view of the consequences, the illegitimate entities seek to sidestep important rules. They cloud the credibility of a market known for its fairness and safety. The vetted operators in Michigan are obligated to partner with recognized tribal or commercial casinos, pass thorough background checks, and comply with tight regulations related to game integrity, player safeguarding, and responsible gaming measures.
