An investigation is underway at the Elmwood Correctional Complex men's facility in Milpitas after a 33-year-old man was found dead yesterday. According to a statement from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, the deceased was discovered unresponsive by deputies at 2:56 PM in his housing unit.
Efforts to revive the man were immediately initiated by the jail staff and medical personnel, continuing until the arrival of the Milpitas Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, with the individual pronounced dead shortly after, at 3:31 PM. Having been in custody since February 14, connected to several charges from San Jose Police Department cases, the man's identity has not been released pending notification to his family.
The Sheriff’s Office has said there appears to be no indication of foul play or anything suspicious regarding the death. Detectives are currently investigating the incident, following the standard protocol for in-custody deaths. This process involves coordination with the District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner to determine the cause of death.
