In a recent move by the Minnetonka City Council, plans have been finalized for a new trail segment, enhancing the outdoor experience for residents. The Minnetonka Boulevard Trail project, recognized as a high priority for the city, was adopted following the council's approval to seek bids, as detailed by the City of Minnetonka. Budgeted within the Capital Improvements Program (CIP), this development aims to bolster safety, walkability, and connectivity along Minnetonka Boulevard.
Amid the council's recent session, Mayor Brad Wiersum received acclaim for his notable service spanning more than two decades. Having reached the twilight of his mayoral tenure, Wiersum was commended by colleagues and citizens alike for his enduring contributions to Minnetonka's public sector. In a statement made by the city's official website, his leadership was praised as leaving a "lasting impact" on various aspects of Minnetonka's urban landscape, encompassing governance, public safety, and the city's infrastructure.
The Minnetonka City Council also advanced its financial strategy for utility improvements, approving the sale of $10 million in General Obligation Utility Revenue Bonds, Series 2025B. The bonds will fund water and sewer upgrades and are expected to be repaid through utility revenues over 20 years. In addition, the council introduced several fee adjustments. An ordinance proposes changes to animal and alarm registration fees, inspections, and the addition of a 5% processing fee for credit card payments over $5,000 to cover increased staff costs. The updates would apply to both residential and commercial accounts, aligning fees more closely with the cost of services.
Support for local commerce was also present at the council meeting, with the issuance of a proclamation for Nov. 29, as Small Business Saturday, as per the City of Minnetonka. The council underscored the importance of small businesses to the Minnetonka economy and called upon residents to patronize these establishments during the holiday shopping kick-off and throughout the year.
