The long-awaited project to widen U.S. Route 54 through Camdenton finally has a start date. According to MoDOT, work will begin today, after having been previously scheduled for an earlier date. The endeavor, part of Missouri’s commitment to improving its highway system, involves expanding the roadway from Business Route 5 to Bumper Hill Road.
Motorists navigating this stretch should plan for modified traffic patterns, as the construction will require one lane to remain open in each direction without a center turn lane through the first phase which is set to run through spring 2026. A contract valued at $6.8 million was awarded to Capital Paving & Construction, LLC, with the aim of not just adding lanes, but also upgrading drainage, curbs, and entryways along the route.
The extensive project is broken down into multiple phases spanning over the next two years, aiming for a wrap in late 2027. All plans are, of course, dependent on the whims of weather, which could bring about changes in this timeline.
MoDOT encourages all who traverse the construction zone to "work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones."
