A mother and her son were hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a townhouse fire in Pompano Beach yesterday. Firefighters from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to the 3100 block of North Palm Aire Drive, where heavy black smoke was seen coming from the property, according to Local 10.

The fire started in the kitchen and spread to the living room before firefighters brought it under control, as per WSVN report. Both victims were taken to Broward Health North. Smoke also affected two nearby units, leaving them uninhabitable and partly burned.

Officials said the American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents from the two additional townhomes that sustained smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by local authorities.
