A high-speed chase in Fountain County, Indiana culminated tragically on Sunday afternoon when a motorcyclist fleeing from a state trooper died after colliding with a truck in Attica. Initial reports reveal that the motorcyclist was traveling over 100 mph, twice the posted speed limit, when clocked by Trooper David Millburg. WISHTV.com notes that the incident began near County Road 650 North on U.S. 41, where the trooper lost sight of the rider shortly after attempting to initiate a stop.
Efforts to apprehend the speeding motorcyclist intensified as the pursuit involved multiple law enforcement agencies. After sideswiping a patrol vehicle belonging to the Attica Police Department, the individual ultimately met their demise in a collision at the crossroads of Main and Perry streets, attempting to escape the chase. "The trooper made a U-turn in an attempt to stop the motorcyclist," according to WTHR.com, but the motorcycle quickly disappeared from view.
The fatal impact occurred after the motorcyclist failed to stop at the intersection, striking a Chevy Silverado. The driver of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. In a statement obtained by Country Herald, the Fountain County Coroner's Office will release the name of the deceased rider after the next of kin have been notified.
Local authorities, including the Lafayette Post, Attica and Williamsport Police, as well as the Fountain and Warren County Sheriff’s Offices, contributed to the response alongside EMS and fire services. While approaching the scene, a Chevrolet Silverado was struck by the fleeing motorcyclist as noted by local news outlets. The identity of the officers involved has not been disclosed nor has the truck driver's name cited in reports from WTHR.com and WISHTV.com. The incident adds to ongoing discussions about the perils of high-speed chases and their potential for fatal consequences.
