A woman was arrested in Clarksville after allegedly hitting a police officer with her car and biting another during the Clarksville Half Marathon on Saturday morning last week. The incident occurred near the intersection of University Avenue and Franklin Street, according to WKRN.

Clarksville Police Sgt. Joel Gibbons was directing traffic for the marathon when 22-year-old Zoie Gaines, who was in a nearby parking lot, attempted to exit onto Franklin Street. When Sgt. Gibbons instructed her to stop, Gaines reportedly accelerated, striking him and causing him to land on the hood of her vehicle.

According to WSMV, Gaines then reversed in an attempt to flee but was pursued on foot by Sgt. Gibbons and Officer Robinson, who repeatedly ordered her to stop. When officers reached her, Gaines resisted arrest and bit Officer Robinson on the finger.

Gaines was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and charged with aggravated assault against a first responder, assault against a first responder, evading arrest in a vehicle, and two counts of resisting arrest. ClarksvilleNow reported that both officers were treated on scene by Montgomery County EMS and did not require further medical attention. Gaines’ bond was set at $50,000.
