An extensive vehicular collision this morning on Interstate 95 near Pembroke Road has disrupted the regular heartbeat of Broward County's traffic flow. According to The Miami Herald, the accident involved three vehicles and caused serious injuries, with the southbound express lanes remaining closed. Lieutenant Michael Kane indicated that of the five adults injured in the mishap, two were in Level 1 trauma and another two at Level 2, with the fifth person still under evaluation.
Adding to the day's turmoil, the Florida Highway Patrol reported to Local 10 a larger pileup involving seven vehicles in the same vicinity, which led to an even greater obstruction on southbound I-95, causing backups to I-595. They confirmed the situation resulted in multiple individuals being transported to local hospitals, though it was noted that there were no life-threatening injuries.
Further congestion was reported owing to the shutdown, as motorists are being pressed to find alternate routes. The advice given by FHP, keen on lessening the gridlock, urged the use of U.S. 441 or the Florida Turnpike as detours, though these paths are also experiencing heightened traffic volumes.
Residents navigating the disrupted traffic flow are facing delays on both the Palmetto Expressway and I-75. A drive from Northwest 154th Street to Dolphin Drive now takes about 33 minutes on the Palmetto and 34 minutes via I-75 — much longer than usual. As recovery work continues and vehicles are cleared from the scene, the Highway Patrol is urging drivers to remain cautious.
