NASCAR driver Joey Gase will honor young organ donor Abraham Torres by featuring him on his racecar during the upcoming Xfinity Series in Avondale. Torres, a boxer who became brain-dead after a gym accident, has helped multiple individuals through organ donation, according to abc15.
Gase, who lost his mother to a brain aneurysm in 2011, is a longtime advocate for organ donation. In an interview with NBCDFW, he said the cause is personal, noting that his mother would have wanted to help others continue their lives through donation.
Through partnerships with organizations like Donate Life Texas, Gase uses his racing platform to promote organ donor registration and awareness. Chad G. Carroll, executive director of Donate Life Texas, highlighted past events where families of donors could see their loved ones honored on Gase’s car.
Gase’s tribute to Torres continues his tradition of honoring donors and raising awareness about the life-saving impact of organ donation.
