A string of events unfolded in Nashville that culminated in the arrest of 29-year-old Joequarius Williams, now accused of the violent assault and attempted murder of a 25-year-old woman. The incident, which police claim occurred after the woman left a Sabrina Carpenter concert on November 5, is said to have taken place in the woman's Germantown apartment building. According to FOX 17 News, Williams, a registered sex offender and on probation for previous criminal charges, allegedly followed her from the venue to her residence.

After gaining access to the building under the guise of a guest, Williams is reported to have grabbed the victim from behind in the elevator. "He then grabbed her by the neck from behind and said he was going to kill her," detailed a report from WSMV. The harrowing ordeal led to the victim momentarily losing consciousness. However, she was able to quickly escape upon regaining awareness and sought help.

Investigators were able to identify Williams as the suspect through fingerprint evidence analyzed by the MNPD Crime Laboratory. In a follow-up, he was also identified by the victim in a photo lineup as her attacker. A spokesperson for the Davidson County District Attorney's Office responded to inquiries by FOX 17 News, stating that they would review the case and pointing out the role of the Tennessee Legislature in setting sentencing guidelines.

Williams' run-ins with the law are extensive, previously involving convictions for robbery, indecent exposure, sexual battery, and aggravated assault with strangulation. In 2019, he had been charged with attempted rape and aggravated assault but pleaded guilty to lesser charges which led to his probation sentence rather than prison time, as mentioned by WSMV. The decision to sentence Williams to probation is now under scrutiny after the recent alleged attack.

Local councilmember Jacob Kupin expressed deep concern over the incident to FOX 17 News, emphasizing the importance of residents' safety in the community, especially when it comes to frequent activities such as returning home from a concert. The attack not only highlights ongoing issues with re-offending individuals on probation but also resonates with the public sentiment as neighbors vocalize their shaken sense of security.

Williams is currently being held in the Davidson County Jail, his bond set at $10.1 million, aligning with one of the highest for the county this year. In light of the events, officials anticipate that probation violation warrants will be issued by the state against Williams.
