The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents are teaming up with Louisiana State Police (LSP) troopers to lend their skills to the New Orleans Police Department, alongside the Louisiana National Guard and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office this bustling weekend from Friday, November 28 to Sunday, November 30; a joint operation spanning several days and involving a detailed security protocol designed to ensure order and safety in a space that will teem with thousands of people.
Leading the nitty-gritty of the operational specifics, according to the LDWF, the department is deploying a contingent of 18 highly trained agents, including 10 Special Operations Group agents and eight Maritime Special Response Team agents, whose role will integrate with the Louisiana State Police Mobile Field Force and the Louisiana State Police SWAT team. The collaborative effort will intensify security in the French Quarter Enhanced Security Zone (FQESZ), which stretches from Canal St. to Ann St., and between Royal St. and Dauphine streets, including the pulsing heart of Bourbon St.
According to the official announcement from LDWF, several important guidelines have been established for the FQESZ during this period; these guidelines aim to streamline crowd control and reduce any potential for incidents, backpack coolers and ice chests are now off-limits, bags larger than a clutch handbag are discouraged and potentially subject to search, vehicles are barred entry unless it's for emergencies and hotel guests will have to show proof of booking and ID to traverse these secure perimeters with their luggage, these regulations are put in place to ensure the well-being of everyone present.
