The City of New Orleans amnesty program, which kicked off on June 1, offers those with parking tickets over a month overdue and photo safety citations two months past due a grace period to pay off their fines at face value. In other words, as long as the infraction predates June 1, you can settle up your debt without the extra financial burden attached.
Notably, the New Orleans Police Department-issued moving violations are not covered by this program. Participants should be aware that once November 30 rolls around, the standard penalties and enforcement practices will be back in full swing. This implies that ticking the clock is crucial for New Orleans residents and visitors who have been racking up those unpaid tickets. The deadline is fast approaching to avoid these fees, as the program will cease at the end of this month.
There are a couple of convenient ways to make payments. For those who prefer the digital route, the city has teamed up with PromisePay to provide a secure, online payment system, where credit cards, digital wallets, and bank transfers are all acceptable. Alternatively, payments can also be made in person at the City Hall or City Auto Pound locations, where they're taking checks, money orders, VISA, and MasterCard.
The City of New Orleans provides multiple ways for residents to get information about the late fee forgiveness program. The program temporarily suspends vehicle immobilization and booting for eligible participants.
