As Veterans Day approaches, the City of Norman has released details on closures and events to honor the day. According to the City of Norman's announcement, all administrative offices will shut their doors on Tuesday, November 11, to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the nation's military personnel. However, services such as sanitation and public transport will continue as usual, ensuring the city remains well-maintained and accessible on the holiday.
Waste collection and public transit services will operate without interruption on Veterans Day. The sanitation division will follow its regular schedule for residential, yard waste, recycling, and commercial pickups. Both the Compost Facility and Transfer Station will be open during normal business hours. EMBARK Norman and the city’s On-Demand service will also run on their usual timetables, with details available on the City of Norman's website.
Norman Animal Welfare at 3428 Jenkins Avenue will be closed on Veterans Day, November 11, and will resume normal operations the following day.
The city will hold its annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony on Sunday, November 9, at 2 p.m. The parade will begin at the Reaves Park Softball Complex and cover about three-quarters of a mile through the park, ending with a memorial ceremony. The event is organized by the Veterans Committee, a volunteer group dedicated to honoring military service, as mentioned on the City of Norman's website.
