An ordinary traffic stop on International Boulevard in Oakland took a serious turn last week when California Highway Patrol officers uncovered a case of suspected human trafficking. The officers, part of the Oakland Area Major Crimes Unit, had initially pulled over a vehicle due to an expired registration last Friday, but the routine check escalated into an arrest for pimping.
Dressed in what the CHP described as attire associated with prostitution, a passenger in the car drew attention from the officers. Their subsequent investigation pointed to the driver engaging in pimping activities. According to the official CHP Oakland Facebook post, evidence was found linking the driver to the exploitation of the passenger for financial gain.
The CHP reiterated their dedication to eradicating this form of exploitation, reminding the community that such crimes are often hidden amongst everyday activities. Those in need of aid or possessing information on human trafficking are urged to contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline by calling 1-888-373-7888 or texting INFO to 233733.
