The Oklahoma City Animal Shelter has put out a call for community support to maintain its pet food pantry, as reported on Friday by Oklahoma City's official website. The goal is to retain pets with their loving families, particularly those undergoing financial strain, and alleviate the demand on the shelter system.
Financial hardship can impose difficult choices upon families, compelling some to contemplate surrendering their beloved pets. However, the pantry's existence is a bulwark against this sorrowful option, offering provisions to keep pets at home. Yet, running almost entirely on donations, the pantry is consistently challenged by high demand requiring continuous community contributions.
Residents who are eager to assist can drop off donations at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter located at 2811 SE 29th St., with the venue accepting contributions from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The official announcement specifies that dog and cat food, whether dry or canned, is particularly sought after, along with other pet essentials such as kitten and puppy milk replacer, dog and cat treats, leashes, collars, grooming supplies, puppy pads, cat litter, and gallon-size re-closable plastic bags.
