As Veterans Day draws closer, Oklahoma City has laid out its holiday schedule, detailing service changes and closures for the day. According to a recent City of Oklahoma release, there will be some adjustments city residents should be aware of come Tuesday, November 11.

Oklahoma City’s trash, recycling, and bulky waste collection services will operate as usual on Veterans Day, according to city officials. Public transportation, including OKC buses, OKC Streetcar, RAPID, and OKC PLUS Zone 1 ADA Paratransit, will follow regular weekday schedules. In honor of veterans, fares will be free across all transit services. Customer service hours will be adjusted for the holiday, operating from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Certain city facilities, including city offices, the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, Animal Welfare, and the Municipal Court, will be shuttered in observance of the holiday. The latter advises residents that payments can still be made online at okc.gov, with additional details about posting bonds available for those visiting okc.gov/courts.

Recreational areas operated by OKC Parks, such as recreation centers, community centers, gyms, senior centers, and family aquatic centers, will not open their doors on Veterans Day, though all outdoor parks will maintain access hours from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Nature enthusiasts can still enjoy the outdoor expanses of the Martin Park Nature Center and Will Rogers Gardens from dawn until dusk, as learned from the dense foliage encompassing the grounds which will usher visitors from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., respectively, as per City of Oklahoma release.

For those looking to mark the national holiday or require city services, it’s advisable to check the full schedule in advance to avoid any Veterans Day surprises.
