With a modest annual salary of $24,000 on the line, the position demands civic-minded individuals ready to serve alongside eight City Council members representing the city's various wards. If the filing period, which was recently announced on the city's website, only draws a single candidate, that candidate will be the default victor, poised to take office in April 2026.

Eligibility requirements for mayoral candidates in Oklahoma City are straightforward. As listed on the government website, one must be a U.S. and Oklahoma citizen, aged at least 21, have lived in the city or its annexed areas for over a year, and been a registered voter within city limits for the same duration immediately before submitting their declaration of candidacy. Declarations, with either a $200 check or a petition with at least 2,500 signatures, must be filed with the Oklahoma County Election Board.

Voters will need to mark their calendars for key dates leading up to the election. The deadline for voter registration is January 16, 2026, as detailed by the OKC government announcement. Those opting to vote absentee must request their ballot by 5 p.m. on January 26, 2026.
