The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken 19-year-old Justin Contreras into custody following a fatal shooting in Omega, Tift County. According to the GBI's press release, Contreras faces charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, two counts each of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm during a Felony.
The incident that led to the arrest occurred on the evening of Friday, when the Omega Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at a local Citgo gas station and subsequently asked the GBI to assist with the investigation. Upon arriving at the scene, they found 30-year-old Jonathan Turner deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The GBI has booked Contreras into the Tift County Jail as they continue to actively gather evidence and seek further information from the public.
Authorities have yet to release additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but an autopsy for Turner is underway at the Macon Crime Lab to help clarify what transpired. The examination is part of the ongoing investigation into the incident at 5530 Alabama Avenue, as officials work to determine the factors that led to the violence.
