
Tragedy struck on I-17 near north Phoenix, when a two-vehicle collision claimed one life and left another person battling life-threatening injuries. The fatal incident occurred on Tuesday according to officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS). Responding at the juncture of I-17 and Jomax Road, DPS stated, "A Jeep passenger vehicle left the roadway, went through a fence and overturned," according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
Rushing to the scene around 1:15 p.m., DPS troopers and Phoenix Fire crews found a white Jeep Wrangler had veered off the adjacent frontage road as per AZFamily. A silver Chevrolet Silverado was involved on the freeway. The specifics of how the collision transpired remain limited at this time, showing the immediate vicinity's traffic shaken on ADOT cameras.
Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed that one victim was pronounced dead on the scene, while emergency services transported another to the hospital with critical injuries. The identity of the deceased has not been released, as the investigation into the cause of the crash continues. The area of I-17 where the crash occurred saw significant disruptions as the authorities conducted their initial inquiry and cleanup operations.
