A fatal shooting disrupted the night in West Phoenix over the weekend. Two men were struck by gunfire, and one did not survive. The Phoenix Police Department responded to calls of the incident just after 11 p.m. on Saturday, near the intersection at 38th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard. As FOX 10 Phoenix reports, upon arrival, officers discovered two men each suffering from gunshot wounds.
The aftermath was grim. One man was declared dead at the scene; he was later identified as 21-year-old Jose Catalan, according to Arizona’s Family. The other man was transported quickly to a nearby hospital, thankfully with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. The shooting scene, still heavy with police presence and cordoned off, was documented by on-the-ground crews from Arizona’s Family, marking the stark reality of the violence that had unfolded.
Details regarding the sequence of events leading up to this tragic outcome remain scant. There has so far been no information released about a possible suspect. Investigators are working to thoroughly piece together what led to the shooting—a task that often takes time and reaps frustratingly few answers early on.
