A triple shooting erupted in West Baltimore on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to two others, as reported by city police and confirmed by CBS News Baltimore. The violence took place at the 3100 block of West North Avenue around 2:26 p.m., where police discovered three adult males with gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders pronounced one of the victims dead upon arrival, while the two surviving individuals were transported to nearby hospitals to receive medical attention. The identities of the victims have not been released, and as of now, no suspect has been apprehended, FOX45 News reports. An increased police presence monitored the area following the shooting.
In the aftermath of the incident, the West Baltimore community expresses distress over the commonality of such violent events. Kenny Ebron, who has existed alongside these streets for over three decades, shared with CBS News that witnessing violence has become an expected part of life. "It's things that happen. It happens when people violate [others] or when somebody feels disrespectful...it happens. So it's the norm," Ebron said, noting that the influx of [smoke] shops contributes to the poor condition of the neighborhood.
Ebron further criticized the lack of constructive outlets for youth, emphasizing a deficiency of after-school programs or mental health initiatives designed to steer young residents toward a better course. "The children have nothing to do. We don't have any programs. We don't have any after-school programs dealing with mental health or any of those things that need to be done in our communities, so this is what we're getting in our community...chaos," Ebron told CBS News Baltimore. His remarks reflect a cry for action from both city and state leaders to reverse this alarming trend.
