A sprawling methamphetamine operation that shuttled thousands of kilos of drugs disguised in jalapeño shipments from Mexico to Georgia has been uprooted, thanks to the efforts of federal and local law enforcement agencies. This network, which conducted its illicit dealings beneath the guise of spicy produce, was uncovered following an expansive investigation dubbed "Operation Take Back America."
As reported by FOX5 Atlanta, the sting operation has led to a dozen people pleading guilty to federal charges, with sentencing slated to continue into early 2026. Among the individuals swept up in the legal dragnet were James Len Ramey, Kendell Cawthon, and Bonterris Turner, each facing substantial prison time and hefty fines for their roles in the meth distribution conspiracy.
The drugs were ingeniously concealed within boxes of jalapeños, but despite the clever subterfuge, the DEA, FBI, and local authorities, including the Georgia State Patrol managed to unveil the operation. According to a detailed report by WSB-TV, surveillance and informant tips brought down key figures like Ramey, who was apprehended following a traffic stop that revealed 20 kilograms of pure methamphetamine.
From the conversion lab situated on Mountain Creek Church Road in Monroe to a car maintenance shop in Athens, this expansive network stands as a testament to the reach of transnational drug trafficking. Law enforcement's seizure of more than six kilograms of pure methamphetamine deals a significant blow to the operation, which had managed to deftly navigate the intricacies of drug smuggling across borders up until their exposure.
In the wake of these arrests and the breakdown of the smuggling ring, U.S. Attorney William R. "Will" Keyes highlighted the operation's scope, emphasizing that “this Operation Take Back America case amplifies the kind of major law enforcement efforts occurring across the Middle District of Georgia,” in a statement obtained by WSB-TV.
