Over 67,000 high school seniors have applied for the Tennessee Promise scholarship, a program that provides last-dollar funding for tuition and mandatory fees at Tennessee’s community and technical colleges after other aid is applied. The initiative also offers mentoring and guidance through partnerships with organizations like the Ayers Foundation Trust and tnAchieves, according to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
Dr. Steven Gentile, THEC Executive Director, emphasized the program’s role in expanding access to higher education, stating, "Tennessee Promise continues to be a powerful driver of opportunity." The program reflects Tennessee’s ongoing commitment to educational inclusivity and support for students pursuing postsecondary education, as reported by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
Students who applied before the November 2025 deadline must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by April 1, 2026, to keep their Tennessee Promise eligibility and access other financial aid. More information on requirements and next steps is available at CollegeforTN.org/TNPromise. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission oversees postsecondary education and state education policy.
