Motorists who frequent McNutt Street will need to reroute their travel plans as work commences on the Interstate 55 bridge. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announced a temporary closure on McNutt Street under I-55 starting from 9:00 p.m. tonight, November 7 until 5:00 a.m. the following morning.
The closure is part of a larger project aiming to shift northbound I-55 traffic onto a newly constructed bridge, and according to MoDOT, this step is necessary to begin the demolition and eventually replace the existing northbound structure of the I-55 bridge; the transition will redirect northbound I-55 motorists to detour by exiting, crossing over McNutt, and re-entering the northbound lane during the aforementioned hours.
Expect to see signed detours which will be set up to guide drivers on McNutt Street to US 61/67 for accessing northbound I-55 during the overnight hours. While the inconvenience is temporary, residents and travelers in the area should plan ahead for potential delays or consider alternative routes to bypass the construction work during its active phase.
