Drivers should prepare for overnight delays on I-75 this week. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced lane closures affecting motorists traveling southbound via Shallowford Road. The closures are part of ongoing construction to install steel bridge girders for a new bridge project. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly and expect potential slowdowns during nighttime hours.
This work won’t run all day; it’s scheduled overnight from yesterday to Thursday, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Both turn lanes from Shallowford Road onto the I-75 South ramp will be closed during these hours. According to the official announcement, all scheduling changes remain at the mercy of the weather — any unexpected storms could push the entire project into next week.
TDOT has scheduled the closures to avoid peak daytime traffic and the busy hours at Hamilton Place Mall. Still, drivers should expect some delays and plan ahead, while exercising caution through the work zone.
Before hitting the road, TDOT recommends checking traffic conditions on the SmartWay Map or by calling 511. Drivers should avoid using phones while driving and remember Tennessee’s Move Over Law — giving space to highway workers can help avoid fines up to $500 or even jail time.
