In Colma, a Home Depot became the scene of a not-so-clever return fraud scheme. According to a social media post by the Colma Police Department, this past Friday saw a duo caught in the act of attempting to cheat the system. At around 2:47 PM, local officers were called to the Home Depot on Colma Boulevard, where a male and female suspect had selected items from the store's shelves, only to immediately return them at the service desk as though they had previously purchased the goods.
Witnesses and Loss Prevention Officers were quick to act, trailing the two suspects. Officers arrived promptly to find the duo exiting the store, with store security close behind their. It wasn't long before the suspects were detained. Shelly Jones, 50, and Eric Webb, 34, were the alleged partners-in-crime caught red-handed with approximately $176.68 worth of merchandise that they did not originally own. A subsequent search unveiled drug paraphernalia in Jones's possession, further complicating matters for her.
The charges leveled against Jones included theft by false pretenses, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Webb faced charges of theft by false pretenses and conspiracy. Both were issued citations and have promised to appear in court.
