
A fatal incident in Vista has left one pedestrian dead following a significant collision with a vehicle on Friday night. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 8:14 PM deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station responded to a collision report in the 300 block of South Melrose Drive, where they discovered the aftermath of an encounter between a pedestrian and a gray Toyota RAV4 SUV; the pedestrian was found lying in the roadway, prompting an urgent response from deputies and paramedics.
The scene, cordoned off with the flickering lights of emergency vehicles, became the grounds for life-saving efforts as the unidentified pedestrian was swiftly transported to a local hospital; the pedestrian was pronounced dead at 8:45 PM according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the involved SUV remained on site, engaging fully with law enforcement, and was determined by investigators not to be under the influence at the time of the collision.
In the wake of the fatal event, the Vista Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit has since taken the reins of the ongoing investigation, seeking to understand the chronological path that led to the collision.
