Emergency responders in Manchester-by-the-Sea rescued a person trapped in swampy terrain near Route 128 yesterday. According to NBC Boston, dispatchers used advanced mapping technology to locate the individual, guiding police and firefighters through dense growth to reach them.
The rescue team utilized what3words, a geocoding system that assigns a unique three-word address to every 10-foot square, to pinpoint the location, MassLive reported. Firefighters in wetsuits navigated the marsh to safely extract the person.
The North Shore Regional 911 Center, local police, and fire department coordinated the operation. Details about how the person became trapped or their condition after the rescue have not been released.
