Investments in Louisiana's manufacturing sector are growing as Pipe and Steel Industrial Fabricators Inc. pushes forward with a $5.1 million expansion to its steel processing and fabrication facility in Livingston Parish. This effort is intended to increase beam-cutting capacity, which could effectively bolster the state's industrial capabilities. The planned expansion follows an earlier investment, marking the family-owned company's second major growth maneuver in the span of just two years.

In tandem with the expansion, Pipe and Steel Industrial Fabricators Inc. is expected to create 20 direct jobs with an average annual salary of $62,400, exceeding the local average wage by 139%. LED estimates project an additional 36 indirect jobs, bringing the total to 56 potential new positions in the Capital Region, according to Opportunity Louisiana.

Amidst the expansion's announcement, Susan B. Bourgeois, LED Secretary, praised the initiative, expressing that "Pipe and Steel’s continued growth shows the strength of Louisiana’s manufacturing foundation and this administration’s commitment to helping our existing businesses succeed." She elaborated on the value Louisiana places on skilled labor, infrastructure, and business cooperation. Her comments echo the sentiment that the region is equipped to thrive and adapt to the demands of a robust industrial landscape, according to Opportunity Louisiana.

The expansion will add to the existing facility a new steel processing center, alongside upgrades to modernize its infrastructure which includes high-end equipment upgrades designed for "The people of our parish are key in building the industrial sector in the Gulf Coast region and the state of Louisiana. We intend to facilitate the labor here with the most advanced fabrication methods used in industrial construction and also facilitate the needs of our own forces. This will also position us to better perform the emergency fabrication jobs we receive daily from our clients in the Greater Baton Rouge/Gulf South area. We intend to have the safest, most efficient and most advanced shops in our parish and state. Having the great capability for structural and pipe fabrication to meet our clients’ needs is only going to improve our industry-leading business model," as stated by Kylie Sparks, Pipe and Steel President and CEO, in an interview with Opportunity Louisiana

Local community leaders are backing the expansion, with Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte expressing optimism about the new opportunities the expansion brings. “Pipe & Steel Industrial has been a great partner in our community, and their decision to expand again shows real confidence in Livingston Parish and our people. We’re excited about the new jobs and opportunities this brings to our parish,” Delatte told Opportunity Louisiana. On the back of the new jobs and improved infrastructure, the local economy is expected to experience a significant uplift.

To facilitate the expansion, the state has extended a competitive incentive package to Pipe & Steel, inclusive of LED FastStart's workforce development solutions and a $200,000 EDAP grant earmarked for infrastructural improvements. The company is also anticipated to advantage from the state's Industrial Tax Exemption and High Impact Jobs programs. Construction is slated to begin in January 2026, with a completion target of June 2026.
