A tragic incident unfolded on LA Hwy 22 in Tangipahoa Parish. The three-vehicle collision occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, and resulted in the death of a motorcyclist, identified as 28-year-old Caleb Milton of Ponchatoula. The report released by officials outlined the harrowing events leading up to the fatal moment, as confirmed by the Louisiana State Police.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2020 Jeep Wrangler and a 2015 Nissan Murano were heading west on the highway, with the latter following the former. Meanwhile, Milton was riding his 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the opposite direction. The devastating sequence began to unfold quickly as the Jeep driver attempted to turn left into a private driveway, inadvertently entering the motorcycle's path. The collision was inescapable; Milton's bike slammed into the Jeep's right side, then careened across the centerline, colliding head-on with the oncoming Nissan, as per the Louisiana State Police's website.
The impact was catastrophic. Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Milton sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to a hospital but later died, losing the battle against the trauma his body had endured. The Jeep's driver, who was unscathed, and the Nissan's driver, who suffered minor injuries, were both reported to have been wearing seatbelts.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash, including whether impairment was involved. Samples have been collected for testing. The incident, still under investigation.
