Senator Ashley Moody took to the Senate floor yesterday to honor Riviera Beach Police Officer Andrew Hinds with the Florida’s Finest award. The award was in recognition of Hinds' courageous act in October when he saved a family from a burning truck perilously close to their home. This action was commended by Moody, who has consistently expressed support for Florida law enforcement officers and their efforts to protect the community.
According to the Senator's Office, Hinds was on patrol duty when he observed smoke and did not hesitate to quickly move into action. He called dispatch and ensured to quickly alert the family of the imminent danger. "Officer Hinds didn't hesitate," Senator Moody said in a statement, explaining how the officer's prompt response played a critical role in preventing a tragedy.
The award, Florida’s Finest, seeks to honor individuals who demonstrate courageous service and go beyond the call of duty to aid others. Senator Moody, as the former Florida Attorney General and now US Senator, has made it a cornerstone of her time in public service to recognize and showcase acts like Officer Hinds'. During her time as Attorney General, she distributed more than 50 Back the Blue Awards, and the Florida's Finest Award will be a continuation of this tradition.
"Our Florida’s Finest Award honors Floridians and law enforcement officers who demonstrate selfless courage and go above and beyond in service to their fellow man,” Moody stated, with Officer Hinds exemplifying these qualities, as reported by the Senator's Office. She made it clear in her remarks the value she places on actions like Hinds’, where one’s dedication to the safety of others is placed firmly above themselves. “I’m so grateful for Officer Hinds, and all of Florida’s amazing law enforcement officers who, on a daily basis, put service above self,” hailed the senator.
