A San Diego neighborhood witnessed an unsettling scene last night when a cyclist and a vehicle collided, resulting in serious injuries. The San Diego Police Department reported that the accident occurred at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Everts Street in Pacific Beach. According to the SDPD Watch Commander's Log, the crash happened yesterday at approximately 8:03 PM.
A 55-year-old man was cycling south on 4400 Everts Street and continued straight into the intersection instead of making a required right turn. At the same time, a 23-year-old woman was driving her Ford Escape eastbound on 1100 Grand Avenue. The cyclist entered the eastbound number one lane and was struck by the vehicle. Tragically, the collision left a cyclist with an open fracture to his tibia/fibula and a fractured femur, necessitating urgent medical attention. He was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently being treated.
The SDPD Traffic Division is taking the lead on the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this serious injury collision.
