San Francisco Bay Area residents are preparing for a week of unsettled weather, with the National Weather Service in San Francisco (NWS San Francisco) forecasting multiple rainy systems and a noticeable drop in temperatures. According to an update from NWS San Francisco, the Central Coast will bear the brunt of precipitation, with 1-2.5 inches expected, while Santa Cruz County and the majority of the Bay Area can anticipate 0.5-1.0 inch of rain.

Despite the benefits of the incoming rainfall, the NWS warns of potential nuisance flooding, including ponding on roadways, especially as the Central Coast prepares for the heaviest downfall. "Given that soils are likely still saturated, we may see some localized nuisance flooding across the Central Coast today," the NWS San Francisco mentioned. The forecast indicates a marginal risk of excessive rainfall, which could lead to flash flooding, with higher-end scenarios projecting rainfall totals of nearly 3 inches in some areas.

Winds are also expected to pick up, with gusts returning on Sunday and continuing into Monday, which, coupled with saturated soils, could result in downed trees or power lines. "Winds are expected to strengthen Sunday into Monday which, in combination with saturated soils, may result in downed trees or power lines across the area," the NWS San Francisco cautions. Meanwhile, temperatures throughout the week are forecasted to stay in the cooler range, with highs predominantly in the 50s to low 60s.

A social media post by the NWS Bay Area indicates that widespread rain is moving into the Bay Area from the Central Coast, cautioning that while rain is mostly beneficial, minor nuisance flooding is possible in some areas. Looking ahead, after a brief respite on Sunday, more widespread rain is anticipated Sunday night into Monday morning as a deep upper-level trough pushes toward the West Coast.

The marine forecast from the NWS predicts moderate to fresh winds and moderate seas, with a storm poised to intensify conditions Sunday night into Monday, which will likely result in very rough seas. Mariners are urged to exercise caution during this period. Looking further into the week, yet another upper-level trough is projected to arrive late Wednesday, promising to perpetuate the wet start to the rainy season throughout the region.
