The San José Police Department is currently investigating the events of a tragic incident that left one pedestrian dead. Yesterday, officers responded to a distressing scene at the intersection of W. San Carlos Street and McEvoy Street, where a 2006 silver Toyota pick-up truck had collided with a male pedestrian. According to the report by the San José Police Department, the collision occurred at around 1:41 AM, marking the city's 34th fatal collision of the year.
The incident unfolded as the Toyota, driven by an adult male, was navigating westbound on W. San Carlos Street. The pedestrian was hit while crossing the street outside of any marked crosswalk, despite the driver’s intention to proceed safely. The emergency services rushed the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, adding to a somber tally as this incident represents the 17th pedestrian fatality in San José this year.
The aftermath of the incident saw the driver of the pick-up truck remain at the scene, where he cooperated fully with law enforcement officers. As routine procedure dictates, the SJPD's Traffic Investigations Unit took up the case, with Detective Leslie #4264 at the helm of inquiries.
