San Luis, Arizona is in the spotlight after snatching the Golden Prospector Award for their work in economic development. The announcement comes from the Arizona Association for Economic Development, which hosts the award to acknowledge outstanding contributions in the field. Specifically, San Luis has been recognized in the Economic Development Program/Process category at the Arizona Association for Economic Development’s annual Fall Forum, according to the City of San Luis.
The award targets programs that not only lure or keep businesses in the community but also promote workforce enhancement while streamlining service delivery. San Luis earned its stripes through a partnership between Local First Arizona and the funding muscles of the USDA Rural Business Development Grant. Their ambition was to bring together local entrepreneurs at the San Luis Business Incubator, where they implemented the Fuerza Local business accelerator program particularly aimed at Spanish-speaking business owners, as reported by the City of San Luis.
The aim was to assist these entrepreneurs in formalizing their businesses, boost financial know-how, and create an environment for resilient business practices. San Luis’ Director of Economic Development, Armando Esparza, expressed pride in their achievement, "It’s an incredible honor to be recognized with this award," he confirmed to the City of San Luis official announcement. Esparza further pointed out the backing from San Luis City Council and the hard work of the Economic Development Team as instrumental to their success.
