A Sandy Springs woman has been arrested on charges of murder following the discovery of her 11-year-old daughter’s body during a welfare check. The mother, identified as Shannon Grimes, was found with her daughter's deceased body at Laurel Grove Condominiums on Carpenter Drive NE, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
According to authorities, they were called to the scene this past Saturday morning after a family member, who expressed concern, requested police to check on the child’s well-being. Upon entering the residence, responding officers discovered the tragic scenario. Fulton County Jail records, as detailed by the same source yesterday morning, confirmed that Grimes was taken into custody with pending criminal charges.
The investigation is currently being handled by detectives from the Sandy Springs Police Department. A press release by the department conveyed that two murder charges and additional counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, possession of a firearm or knife, and tampering with evidence have been levied against Grimes. As per the CBS News Atlanta coverage, specific allegations tied to the murder charge, along with the child’s cause of death, have yet to be made public.
