Authorities in Saugus are actively searching for two individuals linked to a recent assault incident at Square One Mall, where a mother and her young son were attacked on Monday evening, as reported by WCVB. The Saugus Police Department released a photo showing two persons of interest, described as men in their late teens or early twenties, who were last seen near the now-shuttered Sears Automotive building.
Angela Rodriguez, the mother involved in the assault, recounted her harrowing experience saying she and her family were targeted as they prepared to leave the mall parking lot after a shopping trip for her son Isaac's new puppy and at 8 p.m. they were approached by two masked men—one wrestled with her purse while wielding a knife and the other struck her child—with Isaac bravely attempting to defend his mother before being punched in the stomach, a painful experience later shared with CBS News Boston.
Saugus Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli has encouraged witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation. In her distress, Rodriguez invoked her faith, calling out for divine intervention, "In Jesus' name, you have to go away from us," a plea she shared in an interview with WCVB.
The situation also seems to have triggered a profound commentary from Rodriguez on the path the attackers have taken, emphasizing the need for change and redemption, "They need to change, they need to go to church and change, look for something else in the life, you don't need to steal somebody's things, just go work," a sentiment she relayed to CBS News Boston.
