The Indian River County Sheriff's Office is urgently calling for the public's assistance in the search for Donald Keaton, an 86-year-old man with dementia who has been missing since Sunday afternoon. According to information provided by WPBF, Keaton was last seen walking away from the Encore RV Park at 9455 108th Avenue, Lot 231, in Vero Beach. Given his medical condition, which includes dementia and Parkinson’s disease, there is heightened concern for his wellbeing.
Keaton was last observed wearing dark long pants, a long-sleeve shirt, dress shoes, and a retired military ball cap. With the likelihood of layered clothing, he may also have on a patterned polo and dress shorts. The Indian River County Sheriff's Office's request extends to residents, urging them to scour their properties, including "yards, sheds, carports, porches, boats, RVs, and any wooded areas nearby." They are also asked to review any footage they may have that shows someone walking past between 2 p.m. on November 16 and the present, as reported by CBS12.
Keaton is described as white, bald, with blue eyes, 5 foot 9 inches in height, and weighing about 150 pounds. The authorities have also suggested calling out his name if he is spotted, as "people with dementia often respond even when they are disoriented." Immediate action should be taken by calling 911 if Keaton is located or if there is any information relevant to his whereabouts, as noted by CBS12.
For those who might have information but prefer to remain anonymous, the option to contact Detective K. Crawford at 772-978-6240 is available, or they can reach out to Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477.
