Yesterday, seven teenagers were arrested in connection with a series of incidents, including vehicle theft and shoplifting. The events began in Norwood and involved two separate police chases with multiple stolen vehicles.
At around 1:50 a.m., an officer in Norwood saw two vehicles make an illegal U-turn on Route 1 following a suspected shoplifting at a Mobil gas station, according to NBC Boston. When the officer tried to stop the vehicles, both drivers fled, leading to the first police pursuit.
The two vehicles, an Infiniti SUV and a red Lincoln, were later identified as stolen. The Infiniti crashed in Dedham, resulting in the arrest of three juveniles, while the fourth, the driver, escaped. After the crash, Boston 25 News reported that two girls found near a Lowe’s were taken to Boston Medical Center with minor injuries.
At the same time, the red Lincoln avoided a Westwood officer and continued south until Foxboro police used spike strips, causing the vehicle to crash into a guardrail. All occupants were taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital before being taken into custody. The suspects, aged 13 to 15 and from Boston and Worcester, are expected to face charges related to the incidents.
Five local law enforcement agencies including Dedham, Westwood, Walpole, Foxborough police, and the Massachusetts State Police worked together to end the series of high-speed pursuits. The Norwood Police Department praised the coordinated efforts, noting that the collaboration helped safely apprehend all suspects and protect the public.
