Tragedy struck Plainville early Tuesday morning as a fire engulfed a barn at Janbark Farm on Warren Street, claiming the lives of several horses. Boston 25 News reported that the Plainville Fire Chief confirmed the fire department's response to the blaze around 4 a.m., with the loss of an unspecified number of horses. However, 15 horses were rescued from the flames.
The fire not only resulted in the death of several horses but also in the destruction of the barn, which housed a show arena and an attached barn. According to information obtained by NBC 10, the fire is believed to have started in the show arena, spreading rapidly due to the lack of fire alarms in that part of the structure. The barn, recognized as a full-service Morgan Horse facility.
Complications arose as fire units battled the blaze, exacerbated by the rural location's limited water supply. Reinforcements from neighboring communities, including Mansfield and Foxborough, and North Attleborough, were called in to assist. The response effort was significant, with numerous municipalities joining forces to mitigate the situation and prevent further tragedy.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the aftermath of the event has prompted questions about fire safety protocols in such facilities. Warren Street was closed by authorities to manage the situation, demonstrating the extent to which the fire disrupted the local area.
