The Georgia Department of Corrections has a fresh face taking up a crucial role within its ranks. According to official announcement, Sheneca King, formerly the Deputy Warden of Security at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP), is set to step into her new position as the Special Assistant to the Warden at the Special Management Unit starting December 1.
King's rise through the correctional system reflects her unwavering dedication—a journey that commenced in 2002 as a Correctional Officer at Rivers SP. She has ascended through the ranks, serving as Sergeant and Lieutenant, and securing promotions to Captain at Central SP and subsequently to Unit Manager. Her most recent advancement was in 2019 as the Deputy Warden of Security at Dooly SP, leading up to her current post at GDCP. "King continually demonstrates a professional demeanor and has gained a wealth of correctional knowledge that will serve her well as she takes on her new role," Commissioner Tyrone Oliver noted in a statement by GDC.
A solid educational foundation supports King's extensive experience. After earning an associate degree in criminal justice from Kaplan University, she embarked on continuous professional development through various departmental trainings. Among her accomplishments, she has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, management and supervision courses, and rigorous programs designed for Deputy Wardens of Security and Wardens-in-training.
Her new role will involve managing the day-to-day operations of the Special Management Unit and overseeing both staff and offenders. With such a diverse background and extensive training under her belt, it is the consensus of the Georgia Department of Corrections, as Commissioner Oliver relayed, that King is set to continue her trajectory of leadership and dedication to the agency's mission.
