The St. Tammany Parish community has once again tipped its hat to local art champions with its 19th Annual President's Arts Awards. Among the reverent applause, none shone quite as brightly as the Slidell Art League, this year's Lifetime Achievement Award winner. The accolade, as streamed on the St. Tammany Parish social media platform, acknowledges the League's longstanding devotion to nurturing the arts within the community.
Since its inception in 1962, the Slidell Art League has been nothing short of a pillar for both burgeoning and seasoned creatives in the region. The non-profit, membership-driven organization tirelessly works to not only showcase regional talent but also to ensure art is accessible and appreciated by all. Their strategy to sustainably grow Slidell's cultural economy is all about inclusion and encouragement, from hosting shows to facilitating monthly competitions. It's quite the mission to actively build up a community around local artistry.
According to the Parish's Facebook post, Slidell Art League's wheelhouse extends beyond regular art exhibitions. The League is renowned for its Artist of the Year exhibit, a spotlight for the créme de la créme of local artists. Moreover, its Master and Apprentice "Artist of the Month" competitions are in place to ensure every artist, regardless of their stage in the journey, gets a chance to be recognized.
