Springfield Police have arrested 38-year-old Angel Gonzalez in connection with a series of robberies targeting elderly women. According to the Springfield Police Department, Gonzalez was taken into custody yesterday by members of the Detective Bureau.
The investigation began after an incident last month in which an 80-year-old woman’s purse was stolen on Bond Street. A similar robbery occurred on Wednesday last week on Main Street, where another 80-year-old victim sustained minor injuries. Detectives identified Gonzalez as the suspect in both cases.
Gonzalez has a criminal record that includes 56 prior adult arraignments, with previous convictions for unarmed robbery and larceny involving victims over 60 in 2023 and 2014. Detectives arrested him at an apartment on Main Street after obtaining two warrants.
He faces charges of unarmed robbery and larceny from persons over 65 years of age.
