
Springfield police responded to Massachusetts Avenue early yesterday after receiving a report of a woman attacked with a firearm. According to the Springfield Police Department, officers arrived around 1:40 a.m. and found that a bystander had disarmed the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Daivon Ferguson, who was later taken into custody near the scene.
The victim told officers she discovered Ferguson in the back seat of her vehicle and was struck with the butt of a firearm. Sergeant Ivan Rosas and Squad “A” officers recovered the weapon and arrested Ferguson.
At Springfield Police Headquarters, Ferguson reportedly became violent, kicking and head-butting officers. He now faces additional charges related to the incident.
Ferguson’s charges include firearm violation with three prior violent or drug offenses, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering into a vehicle at night for a felony, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and attempted arson.
