Springfield Police arrested 21-year-old Lauvanghte Atkins on Saturday last week, in connection with a July 12 homicide. The arrest, led by the Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under Sergeant Evan Donermeyer, resulted in the seizure of a loaded firearm, according to the Springfield Police Department.
On July 12, officers responded to a shooting on the 2700 block of Main Street, where 35-year-old Webstern Grant-Stovall was found with gunshot wounds. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center but did not survive. The Police Homicide Unit and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office conducted a joint investigation that identified Atkins as the suspect, leading to a warrant for his arrest on Friday last week.
FIU officers located Atkins the next day near a restaurant on State Street and took him into custody. He faces multiple charges, including murder, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. Atkins is scheduled for arraignment in Springfield District Court.
