
Springfield Police arrested 26-year-old Alex Mestre on Tuesday in connection with multiple car break-ins and drug possession. Officers responded around 2:00 a.m. to a report near the 800 block of East Columbus Avenue, aided by surveillance footage from the Real-Time Analysis Center, according to the Springfield Police Department.
Mestre was located on Norwood Street carrying a stolen toolbox belonging to one of the victims. Police also found crack cocaine and unidentified pills in his possession, adding to his charges alongside several outstanding arrest warrants, as stated by the Springfield Police Department.
The Springfield Police Department reported that Mestre was arrested and charged with two counts of “Breaking and Entering into a Vehicle - Nighttime for a Felony,” two counts of “Larceny Over $1200,” and possession of Class B and E drugs. The department said he also had outstanding warrants from the Springfield District Court for vehicle-related offenses, uttering a false check, forgery, and an attempt to commit a crime. The arrest followed a series of reported vehicle break-ins in the city.
