A fatal shooting occurred in the Walnut Park East neighborhood, leaving a 39-year-old man dead. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department identified the victim as Javon Carter of St. Louis City, who was found with a gunshot wound to the chest on Monday, shortly after 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Prange and Genevieve Avenues.
Responding officers pronounced Carter dead at the scene. Police later arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with the shooting. The Circuit Attorney’s Office has charged the suspect with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Details surrounding the motive for the shooting remain under investigation by homicide detectives. Law enforcement is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
