The Stillwater Police Department recently took to social media to honor its Records Technicians and Video Specialist during Law Enforcement Records Personnel Week, which takes place from November 2 to 8. According to the department's Facebook post, this dedicated group of professionals plays an essential, albeit often unseen, role in the daily operations of the police force.
Their meticulous work ensures the precision, and security of vital records that substantiate criminal investigations, legal proceedings, and the transparent flow of information to the public. "Their attention to detail and commitment to integrity make it possible for investigations to move forward, cases to be built, and vital information to be shared with the community," the Stillwater Police Department post detailed. The department's records unit had a busy year in 2024, handling thousands of criminal case and collision reports, managing a multitude of traffic citations and document requests, and redacting a substantial amount of video content for public dissemination. The Stillwater Police acknowledged the critical importance of these technicians, who act as a bridge between law enforcement, the judiciary, and the people they serve, in cultivating public trust and accountability.
Last year's statistics reflect the scope of their work: the Stillwater Police Records Unit processed 4,654 criminal case reports and 1,216 collision reports, entered 13,981 traffic citations and warnings, completed over 2,000 document requests and redacted more than 5,000 minutes of video for public release. Besides being a week of recognition, this period also serves as a reminder of the sheer volume of information that these professionals manage and the precision with which they handle sensitive data.
